16 killed in India flyover collapse

At least 16 people were killed when a flyover under construction in Uttar Pradesh collapsed in India.

According to the Times of India report, the incident happened near the cantonment railway station in Varanasi province on Tuesday evening.

It is believed that over half of the people were trapped under the collapse flyover.

The NDTV says that the two pillars of the Akmakai flyover collapsed together. At that time, huge concrete slabs fell on the ground.

The people, buses and personal cars trapped under the rubble collapsed.

Although the identity of the casualties was not immediately known, the police said they were working as a laborer of the flyover under construction.

On reaching the scene of the accident, five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) participated in rescue efforts. There are also adequate number of police personnel

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the investigation committee to report the matter to the investigation committee within 48 hours of the collapse of the flyover.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the accident saying that officials have spoken with him. The maximum activity is being run. He also prayed for the welfare of the injured.
